Dept of Community Services licenses, registers or grants approval to operate services for children from birth through to school age. Early childhood services must provide a safe and appropriate care and educational environment for children and are governed by strict regulations.
Dept of Education Employment Workplace Relations helps families to participate in the social and economic life of the community through the provision of support for child care services, including helping families with the cost of child care, policy advice, research and service management related to providing children’s services
Illawarra Children’s Service and the Supporting Children with Additional Needs (SCAN) scheme aims to provide eligible State only funded children’s services with the resources to assist children with additional needs to have equal access to a quality early childhood or vacation care experience. Illawarra Children’s Services manages the SCAN scheme in Southern NSW. SCAN has helped to Little Yuin to purchase specialist equipment, provide special support workers for children with additional needs and helped with access to preschool by providing transport support.
Schools as Community Centres Narooma targets communities supporting families and young children. Local SaCC facilitator Tashe Long, Narooma school and interagency partners plan collaborative initiatives to develop capacity in young children birth to 8 years, families and local communities. SaCC has supported the Little Yuin management committee, children’s projects and the preschool.
IMB Community Foundation supported the Wallaga Lake Management Skills project – to build skills and support improved financial management systems within Little Yuin Aboriginal Preschool and Multi Purpose Family Centre Management Committees.
Mumbulla Foundation is the community foundation of the Bega Valley Shire has supported the preschool for many years. It raises money to give grants to local not-for-profit community organisations. Mumbulla Foundation has supported Children and their families to engage in Art and Craft holiday activities in 2006-07 and 2009. In 2008 they supported a preschool vegetable garden to be established.
Bega Valley Shire Council has supported Little Yuin preschool to offer youth week activities to the indigenous young people 10-16 years at the Wallaga Lake community.
Office of the Registrar of Indigenous Corporations has been set up to help the Registrar administer the CATSI Act and to support and regulate corporations for Indigenous people throughout Australia. ORIC also provides an avenue for new incorporations, delivering a tailored service that responds to the special needs of Indigenous groups and corporations, and striving for national and international best practice in corporate governance. ORIC has provided governance training to the Little Yuin managment committee as well as providing a constitution up date workshop for the preschool.
Eurobodalla Shire Council has supported Little Yuin preschool to get resources for health and hygiene for the indigenous children and purchase a BBQ for family activities.
GET UP Narooma has been providing voluntary support to the preschool, staff and management committee.
Seaside Fair at Bermagui has helped us purchase resources and learning equipment for specific projects.
Bermagui Primary School has supported the preschool through a transition to school program and given resources for literacy and numeracy. The school has also made available staff to assist with computer news and training.
Rio Tinto Aboriginal Fund – to employ an indigenous admin/liaison officer for the Family Net project as a part of the Multi Purpose Family Centre in 2009-10.
